January Wrap Up/February TBR

CaLfCBNVAAAPf73

Let’s jump right into it shall we!? January was packed with fun stuff that happened, but let’s take a peek forward into the future at what February has in store.

Not only am I hoping to read all the books you see pictured above, but I also need to finish a couple other one’s here and there. I’ve decided to stop restricting myself too much on my TBR’s because I NEVER get around to finishing them. As long as I get these top four done, I’ll be very pleased with myself *pat on the back for Paige*

As for January, lot’s of cool stuff happened!

I wrote 6 reviews (!!!) and finished a total of 10 books (click the pictures to read the reviews). I read The Darkest Minds and Never Fade for my series a month challenge and hope to be finishing up In the Afterlight soon!

In addition to my reviews, I wrote a much needed positivity post for all you awesome blogger people out there. #bravebloggers

I also went to an Alexandra Bracken book signing and got all my books signed, chatted with Ms. Bracken herself about everything from our Star Wars fanfictions to the white savior complex.

I also bought myself a Kindle Fire and could not stop taking pictures with it (because hello, finally having a Kindle in color is just perfection! Also now I can buy digital comics to my little heart’s content).

I also hosted a Twitter Chat with Alexandra from Twirling Page’s (#TwirlingPaiges #TPChat) and it was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who joined in! If you missed it this time around, don’t worry, we’ll possibly be doing another one in two weeks! Make sure you follow Alexandra and me on Twitter to keep up to date with announcements to come!

That’s about it for this wrap up! What exciting stuff did you do this month? Read anything good? Leave a link below! I’d love to come check out your reviews! Have a wonderful February everyone!

    13486122 14165516 15729261

Not Enough by Mia Hoddell (REVIEW): 4/5 stars! Another great addition to my Mia Hoddell collection!

Água Viva by Clarice Lispector: 1/5 stars. Ugh this was the last of my required reading, thank god.

The Day the Music Died: The Last Tour of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens by Larry Lehmer: 5/5 stars. I’ve been OBSESSED with anything related to Buddy Holly lately so I just flew through this

The Marriage Trap by Jennifer Probst: 5/5 stars

The Marriage Mistake by Jennifer Probst: 5/5 stars

October Wrap Up/November TBR

In October I read a total of 13 books and 2,458 pages!

  23369370         25624966 5321671

The Fade Out, Vol. 1-4 by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips: 2/5 stars. This felt so forced to me and like it was trying to rip off pretty much everything from Watchmen. Definitely will not be continuing on with the series.

Mara, Vol. 1-6 by Brian Wood and Ming Doyle (REVIEW): 4/5 stars. African American female lead + becoming a superhero in a dystopian world = awesomeness

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith (REVIEW): 4/5 stars. A cute romance novel about the night before leaving for college

The Memoirs of JonBenet by Kathy Acker by Michael Du Plessis: 1/5 stars. Required reading. ‘Nuff said.

All the Words Are Yours by Tyler Knott Gregson (REVIEW): 5/5 stars. I adore TKG’s work, and this was fantastic on so many different levels

Black Bull, Ancestors, and Me: My Life as a Lesbian Sangoma by Nkunzi Zandile Nkabinde: 2/5 stars. Not as terrible as other require readings I’ve had to do, but still just as bad.

Library Wars: Love & War, Vol. 14 by Kiiro Yumi: 5/5 stars. One word: FINALLY!

Salamandrine: 8 Gothics by Joyelle McSweeney: 1/5 stars. More required reading for class.

China Cowboy by Kim Gek Lin Short (A very short review on Goodreads here): 1/5 stars. I think this may go down as my most hated piece of trash literature.

Madumo, A Man Bewitched by Adam Ashforth: 1/5 stars. These required readings texts are killing me

The Arson People by Katie Jean Shinkle: 3/5 stars. Not bad for a required reading text (I mean a female that burns people’s houses down? Awesome)

Alex + Ada, Vol. 3 by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn: 5/5 stars. Is the series over? I REALLY hope not because I want more! If this was the end, it was an awesome conclusion!

Fruits Basket, Vol. 22 by Natsuki Takaya: 5/5 stars. This was a quick reread for me, since I was getting back into the anime series and this is probably my all-time favorite one in the series.

In November I want to read:

    17167166 21947304 20983362 23299217 26149807

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

A New Hope: The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken (finish reading)

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (ARC read, join in my read-a-long here!)

Truly Madly Famously by Rebecca Serle

Not Enough by Mia Hoddell (ARC read)

September Wrap Up/October TBR

In September I read a total of 9 books and 1,831 pages!

       6299 505556 1228779

The Ancient Magus’ Bride by Kore Yamazaki: 3/5 stars. It was okay…I’m not going to continue on with the series though.

Heat of the Moment by Lauren Barnholdt: 1/5 stars. I couldn’t even get past the first 30 pages. I left a very tiny review here on Goodreads

The Lonesome Young by Lucy Connors (REVIEW): 4/5 stars. I really liked this, but thought it dragged on in a few places and ended a bit abruptly.

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (REVIEW): 4/5 stars. A cute middle grade fantasy that came highly recommended!

Howl’s Moving Castle Film Comic, Vol. 1 by Hayao Miyazaki and Diana Wynne Jones: 3/5 stars. These are short little novellas that show the movie in comic form (basically). Definitely does not follow the book to a T which is a little disappointing, but they’re still an enjoyable read

Howl’s Moving Castle Film Comic, Vol. 2 by Hayao Miyazaki and Diana Wynne Jones: 3/5 stars (see above)

Howl’s Moving Castle Film Comic, Vol. 3 by Hayao Miyazaki and Diana Wynne Jones: 3/5 stars

Howl’s Moving Castle Film Comic, Vol. 4 by Hayao Miyazaki and Diana Wynne Jones: 3/5 stars

Death and the King’s Horseman: A Play by Wole Soyinka: 2/5 stars. This was something I had to read for class and I enjoyed it in the context of that setting, but it’s not something I’d ever pick up on my own

Forever Valley by Marie Redonnet: 1/5 stars. Again, another book I had to read for class and it was awful. Ughhhh required reading is sometimes the worst.

In October I want to read:

A Court of Thrones and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (reread)

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman (ARC read)

August Wrap Up/September TBR

In August I read a total of 7 books and 2,868 books!

     22880504 22466774

Battle Royale, Vol. 1 by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi: 5/5 stars. I love the movie and have yet to read the novel so this manga was great!

Will Supervillians Be on the Final?: Liberty Vocational Vol. 1 by Namoi Novik and Yishan Li: 4/5 stars. Cute little story about superheroes. Too bad there aren’t any more in the series

Something New: Impulse/Lessons Learned by Nora Roberts: 5/5 stars. I’m always a huge sucker for Nora Roberts’ stories so of course I loved this one

Strawberry Panic Omnibus (1&2) by Sakurako Kimino: 3/5 stars. This came recommended from Chantal, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I thought the story went in circles too much

A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (REVIEW): 5/5 stars! I can’t wait for the next one!

Trouble From the Start by Rachel Hawthorne: 5/5 stars! It’s been too long since I’ve read one of her novels, and this definitely got me out of my reading slump!

Take Me If You Dare by Nina Crespo: 4/5 stars. It was good, but not great. Lot’s of good, steamy, romance scenes!

In September I want to read:

     23310828

Heat of the Moment by Lauren Barnholdt

A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin

The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Vol. 1 by Kore Yamazaki

(Not very ambitious, but I have been working 16 hour work days lately (not that’s not a typo) so I have ZERO time/energy for reading unfortunately)

July Wrap Up/August TBR

Here’s what I read in the month of July!

23341604  7159926 25365667 25365683 10123763 18225810 24817626 18223718 24384702 11389398 10798418 13615

Love at Fourteen, Vol. 3 by Fuka Mizutani: 4/5 stars. I don’t think I’ll be continuing on with this series. The progression of the plot is a bit too slow for me.

Drama by Raina Telgemeier: 5/5 stars. I love these easy to read middle school aged graphic novels and this one was just so adorable!

Resistance: Book 1 by Carla Jablonski and Leland Purvis: 3/5 stars. I think this was a little young for me, but the story was good. Didn’t like the drawing style too much.

Poldark by Winston Graham (REVIEW): 5/5 stars! This was a great start to the series!

Demelza by Winston Graham (REVIEW): 5/5 stars and of course this was an excellent follow up!

Smile by Raina Telgemeier: 5/5 stars! Another cute novel from Ms. Telgemeier. I really enjoy her graphic novels even though they are a little below my age range

Sisters by Raina Telgemeier: 5/5 stars! This was a companion novel of sorts to the first one but they can be read in any order. Super cute as well!

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee (REVIEW): 4/5 stars. Just read the review. I can’t do it justice here.

Deadman Wonderland, Vol. 1 by Jinsei Kataoka: 4/5 stars. I’m always on the hunt for new manga series’ to try and this one came up on my radar. It’s okay but we’ll see how the next few go

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan (REVIEW): 2/5 stars. I just couldn’t finish this one, despite how much I liked part 1

Friends with Boys by Faith Erin Hicks (REVIEW): 5/5 stars! This is definitely going down as one of my favorite graphic novels of the year!

Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler & illustrated by Maira Kalman: 4/5 stars. I really liked some of the quotes in this and the plot, but I think the way it was written just wasn’t for me

Death Note, Vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba: 4/5 stars. I need to get further in the series I think before really figuring out if I like this or not.

In August I want to read:

       10576365

A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

Battle Royale, Vol. 1 by Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi

Saga, Vol. 19-24 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples: 5/5 stars and OH MY GOD I NEED THE NEXT ONE NOW!

Finding Thor by Kai Strand (REVIEW): 5/5 stars! Another great novel, as usual, by Kai Strand!

Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld and the Truth Beyond Blackfish by John Hargrove: 5/5 stars. I very haunting tale of what really goes on at SeaWorld

The Heiresses by Sara Shepard (REVIEW): 5/5 stars! A typical Sara Shepard novel, but still great!

Torrent by Gemma James: 4/5 stars. I did not like this as much the second time around.

Rampant by Gemma James: 3/5 stars. Ughhh the sequel was even worse. I’m not going to be continuing with this series.

This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki: 4/5 stars. A very cute and fast read (I think I’m on a graphic novel kick right now…)

The Spider Stone: Rogue Angel #3 by Alex Archer: 5/5 stars! I love listening to these books since they’re more than just one person narrating and there’s sound effects. Other than that this story was awesome!

Black Hole by Charles Burns: 4/5 stars. I had to read this for a class and it was pretty cool!

Sex Criminals, Vol. 1: One Weird Trick (#1-5) by Matt Fraction: 4/5 stars! I’m going to love this series!

Over the Wall by Peter Wartman: 4/5 stars! A cute little graphic novel for pre-teens

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling: 5/5 stars (of course) This is something I’ve bound to have reread for the thousandth time!

Vatican City, Las Vegas by T. Wolfinger: 1/5 stars. This graphic novel was terrible! I’m not one for religious symbolism and the writing was just awful.
