Agent Colt Shore: Domino 29 by Axel Avian

Agent Colt Shore Domino 29Synopsis from Goodreads: When an ordinary kid learns he’s the heir to a secret agent dynasty, F.A.L.C.O.N puts him on a case to protect a famous rock group and find a missing journalist. Before he knows it, Colt Shore has gone from body guard to rock star to full-fledged agent when he learns that a human trafficking ring plans to kidnap a group of teenage girls. It will take more than his ingenuity and skills and a couple of cool gadgets to protect his new friends and rescue the captured girls before it’s too late.

Number of pages: 370
Release Date: May 15, 2013
My review: This book was such a great surprise for me. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did and I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite books of 2013! Agent Colt Shore had it all; action, adventure, secret agents, cool gadgets, and a really great plot to top it all off.
Right from the start we are thrown into a world where there is a high school set up for secret agents in training for a company called FALCON. But, unlike other YA books where the characters are placed into this school and they have to go through the whole “who am I? I’m not a *insert type of person here including but not limited too; vampire, werewolf, etc.* No, Colt knew from the start that he was an agent in training which I really liked. Of course there were secrets here and there that were revealed and that definitely made the book all that more interesting.
As Colt begins his adventure, and right up until the end, I liked how we kinda of got a history of the different places he was going or a connection to real life events that had transpired in different places of the globe. This made me a lot more interested and curious about the real life issues going on in these settings and often I’d set the book down to do my own research, which was way, way, cool.
Agent Colt was one of those characters that I felt an immediate liking to. He was level-headed and wise despite the fact that he was a 15 year old newbie in his field, but he just had this aura about him that drew you in.
Also, often with books like this about secret agents and adventure and stuff you feel that the characters get too lucky, but I didn’t feel that way at all. All of the obstacles that Colt had to overcome sounded reasonable and like something that could happen in real life.
Overall, it was just a really awesome and fantastic book. I can’t express to you how good it was. Of course, once I finished the book all I could think was, when is this going to be made into a movie, and when is there going to be a sequel?

She only took one look at my face when her eyes creased with concern and worry.
“Serena what’s wrong?” ~ Page 17

As I took my notes out he continued to stare, and I tried to calm myself, not wanting him to know that sitting near him was making me want to flee the room. ~ Page 66

When the bus reached Chloe’s house she simply got up saying, “remember what I said about Kai,” before she walked off the bus without the usual hug and smile.
Sighing I stayed on the bus until my stop and when I reached my house I trudged to my room, nervous about what I would or wouldn’t find. ~ Page 100

We arrived on the outskirts of the city, quicker than I thought possible, to find smoke billowing above the buildings. I could just about see the enormous flames dancing in between the houses, while the smoke spiralled up. ~ Page 193

I turned my head, searching all the possible places he could be hiding but saw no sign of him. That’s when I felt two strong hands plant themselves firmly on my shoulders, causing me to yelp in surprise and fear. ~ Page 246

About the Author
Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and her preferred genre is Young Adult, Paranormal Romance. Before 2009, Mia wouldn’t even pick up a book and was more interested in sports. However she finally found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of both reading and writing. Mia began with poems and after getting two published in separate anthologies she moved on to short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series The Wanderer Trilogy and from there other ideas have emerged which she hopes to turn into novels as well. Elemental Killersis her second series and book two will be out soon.

What people are saying:
“I read this book in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down. The story line was original, intriguing and made you feel like you were part of the action.  As well as this there were many twists and turns that kept me hooked and the book was really well written with a solid plot. Book Blogger Confessions #1

I’ve started to start participating int the “Book Blogger Confessions” Meme after I heard some people talking about it on Twitter so here we go! Enjoy!

Here’s what it’s all about: “Started in January 2012, by Karen – For What It’s Worth & Tiger – Tiger’s All Consuming Media & now co-hosted with my good friend Pam from Midnyte reader, Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers “confess” and vent about blogging/bookish topics. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions.

Just keep it respectful – no bashing authors or other bloggers!”

March 4th Topic: Giveaways. As a blogger, how do you feel about extra entries, required entries etc? Do you have a system to choose/announce winners and keep prizes organized? What method works best for you when hosting a giveaway? (Rafflecopter/Google Doc’s or other)
What do you do about people who enter your giveaways but don’t follow instructions exactly?

Have you ever had problems hosting a giveaway sponsored by an author or publisher who is supposed to send the prize to the winner and doesn’t? How have you handled these issues?

As a prize winner – what do you do if your prize never arrives? Do you contact the blogger or just let it go?

Alright let’s start from the beginning. Giveaways. Ah, giveaways; a blogger’s favorite thing (I mean come on who doesn’t love free stuff right?) but I have a lot of mixed feelings about them. I think it’s fair that there are extra entries for people who say follow a blog, and I think required entries are okay too. I mean if you want something badly enough you’ll do anything for it right? That doesn’t mean you should give someone your first born child but we all have our limits, nevertheless.

Personally, I just use Rafflecopter to choose my giveaway winners and to post the giveaway itself. It’s fast, easy, and most importantly free and I think it looks clean and professional on my blog posts.

I, so far, haven’t had problems with people who have entered my giveaway and haven’t followed instructions, but if this should arise in the future (which it probably will) then I’ll just delete their entry (the only one that wasn’t followed right). Plain and simple. You cheat? You don’t get to win.

Again, I haven’t had the problem yet of a sponsored company or author not sending a prize but I think I’d just try to handle the situation as respectuflly and professionally as possible (kindly asking them to send the prize and if they don’t maybe sending the winner something in compensation like a couple free bookmarks or something).

Lastly, I’ve only ever won contests on Goodreads so I haven’t come across the problem of not receiving my prizes but I think, again, I would just nicely ask the contest holder if they had sent out the prize yet (it might not be their fault! What if it got lost in the mail?).

What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below letting me know or give me a link to your own post. Thanks everyone!

A: Yes! A ton. Listen to what one conference attendee said about last year’s conference:
“I signed up for the 2012 Teen Author Boot Camp with high hopes. I was possibly even more ecstatic to attend the conference than I was to have my birthday, just a week prior to the event. Not only would I get the chance to meet one of my favorite authors of all time, Brandon Mull, I would also get the opportunity to develop my craft via the numerous workshops and lectures being held. The boot camp was amazing. The lectures were informative, I learned valuable techniques to become a better writer, and I had a lot of fun along the way.
